Job Title: Art Therapist/Art Psychotherapist

Pay: Session rate of £50 (supervision and additional paid admin hours included)

Hours:Bank (as and when required and negotiable, initially aprox 1 day a week for a 12 week duration)

Contract: Freelance

About the Organisation

Outskirts is a London-based charity operating in the borough of Haringey with the primary focus of giving support to women and those who feel marginalised or socially excluded through providing art psychotherapy. Outskirts operates from a intersectional feminist perspective, valuing the contribution of all members of society equally and understanding the various, intersecting types of oppression that many people face. We work therapeutically, using a unique therapy model that includes the exploration of external realities impacting on an individual’s experienceas well as the personal and integrates both psycho-educational and psychodynamic approaches.

About the role

Outskirts currently have an exciting opportunity for two art therapists to join the organisation and work as part of an art therapy service launch in partnership with Solace Women’s Aid. Successful applicants will work running individual and/or group art therapy sessions with women survivors of domestic abuse living in refuges or floating support service users accessing one of the Solace community projects situated in the North London area. This opportunity is only open to women candidates due to this specific service being a women only therapy space and work will begin in September 2019.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical

Provide individual and/or group art psychotherapy sessions on a weekly basis in keeping with Outskirts approach, ethos and practice guidelines.

Attend fortnightly clinical supervision provided by Outskirts.

Complete initial and follow up evaluation tasks.

Complete necessary administrative tasks such as monitoring, report writing and record keeping.

Other

Become familiar with and closely adhere to Outskirts policies and procedures including with regard to equal opportunity, health and safety and confidentiality and data protection.

Become familiar with and demonstrate commitment to Outskirts purpose and key values in regard to compassion, collaboration, dignity and empowerment, diversity, integrity and ethics.

Person Specification

Essential

MA Art Psychotherapy qualification

Registered with the Health & Care Professions Council

Experience in working with women survivors of domestic abuse.

Experience of working under ones own intuitive as well as part of a team.

Experience of facilitating individual and/or group art therapy sessions.

Knowledge of a psychodynamic approach to therapy.

Understanding of issues of relevance to intercultural work in the therapeutic relationship.

Awareness and understanding of the personal, cultural and social context of domestic abuse within a gender based approach.

Understanding of secondary and vicarious trauma as a therapist.

Good verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to maintain a professional approach in stressful situations.

Demonstrate being warm and approachable, flexible and creative.

Has current personal liability insurance.

Desirable

Post qualified experience of working with women survivors of domestic abuse.

Understanding of intersectional feminism.

Understanding of a feminist therapy approach.

Understanding of psycho educational approaches.

Member of the British Association of Art therapists.

Experience of working in a small charity or third sector organisation.

Experience of working as part of a multi disciplinary team.

Experience of partnership working.

Knowledge of post traumatic stress disorder.
